Losing a parent is hard no matter how old you are. One day your mother or father is sitting right by your side, the next, they’re up in Heaven looking down on you. Sadly, one little boy from the St. Paul of the Cross Parish in Rome recently lost his father and knows this pain. Emanuele’s father was his guiding light, and without him, life was pure chaos. Since Emanuele’s father passed when he so young, the concept of Heaven was still confusing. Was his father really up in the clouds somewhere with God? Or was his soul was resting six feet under? Thankfully, Pope Francis decided to pay a visit to the parish and answer questions for parishioners who needed it the most. While all of the Pope’s answers were moving, his response to the Emanuele’s question about Heaven brought tears to our eyes!
With tears in his eyes, Emanuele approached the microphone and tried to work up the courage to ask his question. But, try as he might, he couldn’t summon the nerve to ask the holiest man on Earth his important question. Instead of growing frustrated with Emanuele’s lack of confidence, Pope Francis showed his caring side. He looked at Emanuele in the eye and softly said, “Come to me, Emanuele. Come and whisper it in my ear.”
Emanuele took a deep breath and slowly walked onto the stage. This was the opportunity of a lifetime and he was going to have a direct link to God’s word — how would he use it? The pair spoke quietly for several seconds before Emanuele walked back to his seat. Pope Francis surveyed the crowd and said, “If only we could all cry like Emanuele when we have an ache in our hearts like he has.” Listen to Emanuele’s heartbreaking question and the Pope’s response below. We’re so glad this was caught on camera!
