Oh, that Christmas time that makes us all better people who somehow remember that love and kindness are the only moving force that never ends. Hearing stories of random people doing generous deeds gives us hope that humanity is still alive and hides somewhere under the busy schedules. This time, the man who reminds us that love is all we need is the Big Man himself.
While doing her groceries and the last preps for the most wonderful time of the year, Gina and her son were eager to take a picture of the Concord Mall’s Santa. As Gina started following him, she stumbled upon the most heartwarming sight.
Santa was about to give a war vet a sweet surprise by thanking him for his bravery and sacrifice, as well as for everything he did for the nation and the country.
In the middle of the crowd and all those people and kids who wanted to share their secret wishes with Santa, he could spot a man wearing a hat that said he was a WWII veteran. Leaving everything behind, Santa approached the elderly man to pay him homage, and it looked as though the words he got to hear was everything this man needed.
On her Facebook page, Gina recalled:
“I hear Santa telling the gentleman, in a soft voice, of others he knew who served. He shakes his hand with genuine gratefulness, thanking him for his service and returns to the children. Best moment of my day.”
The photos of this heartwarming encounter touched many people who seem to have lost the faith in the magic Christmas brings. It went on to become the highlight of thousand’s of people’s otherwise bah-humbug day!
In an interview with FOX 29’s Jannaphr Frederick, Santa explained that veterans like Bob deserve all the kindness in the world for their selfless service.
The veteran said how he doesn’t feel like he did anything special by joining the military. It was something all 35 boys from his generation did.
“In my generation it was duty. We all went, we all served. Every boy in my high school graduating class all served.”
Most of the WWII veterans are no longer among us, but those few that still get to enjoy life, like Bob, deserve to spend their days constantly being reminded about how important of a role they played for the freedom that we enjoy today. That’s why, whenever you stumble upon a veteran, make sure you take your time to stop and say “thank you for your service” because recognition is the ultimate present they can get.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to men like this, that have made such a life-changing decision to give up themselves, be willing to lay down their life even, for other people.”
Bob is a very special man who remains humble, despite the attention he has been given.
