Kate Middleton has been going through a rough time since her cancer diagnosis but she’s not alone in her battle with the disease. Her children, as well as her husband, are with her every step of the way.
Kate and William’s love story dates back to their college days.
Throughout the years, as any other couple out there, they had their ups and downs.
Speaking of the time the two met for the first time through mutual friends, Kate recalled: “I actually went bright red when I met you and scuttled off feeling very shy about meeting you.
“William wasn’t there for quite a bit of the time initially, he wasn’t there from Fresher’s Week, so it did take a bit of time for us to get to know each other.”
According to the documentary The Day Will and Kate Got Married which aired in April 2021, the two were just good friends at the beginning but one night changed it all. During a student fashion show, Kate wore a sheer dress that wooed the Prince, and the rest is history.
“A switch had been flicked, he suddenly saw her in a different light, and I really believe that was the turning point in their relationship,” Vanity Fair’s royal correspondent, Katie Nicholl, said in the documentary.
A reported by The Telegraph, Prince William said: “We were friends for over a year first and it just sort of blossomed from then on. We just spent more time with each other and had a good giggle, and realized we shared the same interests.”
Their love was deep and they got the entire attention from the media. Kate even made a public appearance with the Royals and attended the Sovereign’s Parade at the Royal Military Academy, in which William attended, along with her family.
And as everyone believed a royal marriage was just around the corner, the two split in 2007.
Recalling the time of their break up, both Kate and William claimed it was actually good for them because they got to “find themselves.” Kate even said that “you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you’re younger,” as per The Telegraph.
The two got back together in 2008 and William proposed to Kate in 2010 during a trip to Kenya with his late mother’s engagement ring.
Today, after three children and years of being together, William and Kate’s relationship is as strong as ever.
Following Kate’s cancer diagnosis, William has been juggling his responsibilities to the Crown with being a father and husband. He’s received praise for how he handled the situation, but experts have also noted that he’s been going through a challenging period.
After all the rumors about Kate’s exact health state, she finally made her first public appearance when she attended Trooping the Colour, a meaningful and traditional event that celebrates the King’s official birthday.
While on the balcony, Kate and William shared a moment during which they looked at each other’s eyes and smiled. The photo has been re-shared by thousands of fans and it speaks of the love between the two.
“The last few months have been a test of their strong partnership,” former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told OK! Magazine. “I think this photograph tells us that they are still able to jump for joy, even in the toughest of times, and that Kate has deliberately chosen a picture that speaks of their optimism for the future.”
“She adores William – he is her rock and has supported her so selflessly through all of this and has taken flak from members of the public for not doing more and for devoting himself to her. So she adores her man. I think their marriage is stronger than ever.”
Jennie Bond continued, describing William’s commitment to Kate as a “great accolade.”
While the future king did face a dose of criticism for some of his actions following his wife’s cancer diagnosis, Bond asserts that it boils down to his unwavering dedication to Kate.
“It’s a great accolade to a person to have your partner who has such a public role but any partner just say ‘OK, I don’t care what people say, you are my priority,” she concluded. “William has made it absolutely clear that Kate and the children are his number one priority and nothing is going to move him away from that path.”
A source close to William shared with the Sunday Times in mid-March that he’s dedicated to protecting his children as their mom’s health is discussed in the media.
“All he wants to do is protect his wife and children. The family just want to go away for Easter, spend time together, the five of them, close off from the world and move on.”
Speaking of how William managed to deal with the troubles he faced in recent months, royal commentator Ingrid Seward told the Mirror, “It has been one of the most difficult couple of years of Prince William’s life. He is sensitive, he likes structure and has perseverance. He does not give up easily. His relationship with brother Harry upset him more than he would care to admit. But he found it easier to cut ties rather than allow himself to be continually annoyed.
“His life with Kate gives him the security, love and friendship he needs. He doesn’t dwell upon the loss of his mother but knows the feeling of hurt will never go away completely.”
