Recently divorced woman moves into 10’x11′ shed and coverts it into lovely tiny home

A multiple bedroom home? A mansion, maybe? For most people, living in such a place would be a dream come true, but there are also those who opt for simplicity. The truth is that tiny homes can not only be comfortable and convenient, but also easier to maintain.

In fact, nowadays, many tend to rent or purchase smaller homes because that way they can reduce the costs of living, such as rent or mortgage payments, electricity bills, and more.

Heather, a young woman who got divorced during the pandemic knows this all too well. She is a world traveler who used to live in a van before she decided to turn a shed into her permanent home. The place, only 10’x11′, may seem too tiny for most of us to imagine it as our home, but not to Heather.

She decided to trade life on the road for something more grounded during the pandemic, and also to pursue a fresh start after her divorce.

From the outside, the shed-turned-home looks modest, barebones, even. Heather hasn’t spent much time or money into renovations of the exterior just yet but chose to keep things simple just in case she decides to turn to traveling again. The interior, however, is another story. Her little house has everything she needs.

When you step through the door, you’ll find her workspace to the right, facing a window with stunning views ideal for inspiration during workdays. To the left sits a snug living area, complete with a swinging desk for movie nights and a couch piled high with pillows.

There is also a combined fireplace, kitchen, and bathroom space. A wood stove keeps the place cozy on cold, wet days, while a compact camping stove is all she needs for cooking. Her glassware and pantry goods are neatly arranged on open shelves, and a fridge passed down from her mother holds both food and a collection of travel magnets. Even with the limited square footage, Heather created space for drawers, cabinets, and a composting toilet hidden under the sink.

Above the living room is her loft bedroom that provides enough space just for sleeping. “The thing I love about the whole space is just the vibe of it,” Heather says. “For the first time in my life, I had control over what I wanted. It feels open and airy, almost like indoor/outdoor living. It’s just having a safe space that’s my own that makes me feel inspired to create.”

You can take a look at Heather’s place in the video below.

Can you picture yourself living in such a tiny home? I know I can.
