Newly married couple tragically discovered dead in their car just weeks before celebrating their first anniversary

Rachel Dumovich, 29, and Brandon Dumovich, 30, from Sharon, Wisconsin, were found dead inside their car just days before celebrating their first wedding anniversary. Their bodies were discovered when an officer spotted the car parked with its hazard lights activated on October 6. When he approached to check the vehicle, he discovered the bodies.

The coroner’s office said the cause of death were gunshots in the head.

“While a murder-suicide is a potential scenario, no final determination has been made,” Harvard Police Chief Tyson Bauman previously told Fox News Digital, according to the New York Post. The gun used in the shooting was found inside the car.

The tragedy took place a week away from the couple’s first wedding anniversary.

According to people close to Rachel and Brandon, they were high school sweethearts who tied the knot on October 12, 2024 after dating for a couple of years. They first met when they were in their early teens but only started dating some 15 years later.

“I caught Brandon’s attention by stealing cologne from his locker and running away with it,” Rachel once wrote of their relationship.

“After keeping in touch through many life stages and 15 years of friendship, we started dating in 2022.”

The pair had tied the knot in Slinger, Wisconsin, by the scenic Big Cedar Lake.

That very day, before the heartbreaking discovery, Rachel changed her Facebook profile photo to a selfie with Brandon.

Just minutes after, she posted a snapshot from their trip to Greece, writing: “Forever chasing sunsets. Wishing we were back in Greece!”

Brandon, born in Barrington, Illinois, was a former US Navy petty officer remembered for his ability to lift spirits and unite people. His obituary made no mention of his wife, and hers likewise omitted his name.

The Knot

Rachel, a Highland Park native and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee graduate, was described as a compassionate advocate and loyal friend who worked in human resources.

Police briefly ordered residents to shelter in place, but the area was later deemed safe and reopened the next morning.
