New coronavirus wave hits – health officials warn as cases surge

Since the start of January, the number of people affected by the coronavirus has doubled, urging experts to issue warnings.

According to data released by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), the “positivity rate” increased from 4.2 to 4.5% in the week ending Sunday, April 6, with the number of people testing positive in England rising by 7%.

In comparison, at the start of the year, the positivity rate was 2.2%.

The UK Health Security Agency stated that those who received the vaccine against the coronavirus had a more than 40% lower chance of being hospitalized with COVID-19 that the unvaccinated.

“Seasonal changes and increased indoor social mixing can contribute to the spread, much like we see with other respiratory viruses,” said Dr. Wylie. “Common symptoms include a sore throat, cough, congestion, fatigue, and sometimes a fever or loss of taste or smell, though the latter is less frequent now.”

Around 7.5 million people in England are eligible for the NHS spring booster vaccine, which will be available from April 1 to June 17.

Dr. Wylie has issued an alert to the residents who are most at risk, including the unvaccinated, those with compromised immune system, and those aged 75 and above.
