My son’s eyes widened when he saw the rocking horse his dad, my ex-husband, brought him a few weeks ago. It was indeed a beautiful gift, and while my son, Ethan, couldn’t be happier, I knew that this was yet another present Anthony brought in order to ease the guilt from the messy divorce.
Anyways, I didn’t say anything since Anthony visited often and made sure he brought Ethan plenty of toys and a bunch of other staff.
At first, everything was normal with the plush rocking horse. Ethan loved it and spent hours riding it and giggling. However, after a few days, I started noticing this weird clicking sound. I didn’t pay much attention to it since I thought it was just part of the toy, an old spring or a cheap part maybe, but as days passed by, the sound became louder and louder. And more… rhythmic. So, one night, right after Ethan went to bed and fell asleep, I decided to investigate.

I rolled the horse over and rocked it gently, but the clicking noise didn’t stop. At that point, my heart started pounding. As I reached under, my fingers brushed against something that clearly wasn’t part of the toy. The moment it hit me what it was, my stomach turned.
Anthony had the audacity to place a recorder inside the rocking horse. And it didn’t come as a surprise because I knew he was planning on going after full custody of Ethan, even though it was his cheating that ended our marriage.
I immediately called my lawyer and explained what was going on, but he assured me that those recording would be inadmissible at court.
Although I have never spoken bad about my ex in front of our son and there was nothing that he could use against me at court even if he could, I still decided to replace what was being recorded with hours of bland TV static.
On his next visit, Anthony collected the device in silence, certain it held something that could damage me. Yet after that… nothing. No messages, no legal moves, just silence.
I guess I won without a battle.
