Donald Trump has decided that the East Wing of the White House needs renovation, a decision some find amusing while others criticize. The president is reportedly planning to build a $300 million ballroom and has been bragging about it far and wide.
While the public has shared its opinions on the renovations, one person who has remained silent is First Lady Melania Trump, who has reportedly had to relocate to another part of the White House since her office was located in the now-demolished East Wing. The renovations also include he East Colonnade and the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden.
Aside from having her office there, Melania also left her mark on the parts of the place her husband has now torn down. Back in 2018, she famously filled the East Colonnade with 40 striking blood-red Christmas trees as a tribute to Americans who lost their lives in military service.

Now, with her former workspace and several historic areas demolished to make way for a new ballroom, many are wondering what she really thinks about her husband’s ambitious renovation plans.
While the first lady hasn’t commented on the matter, it was her former chief of staff, Stephanie Grisham, who was more than happy to share her opinion.
Speaking to the CNN, Grisham said the decision to remove the east wing “breaks her heart.”
“It’s something that could never be put back,” Grisham said. “I wish they would have gone about it in a better way… I can’t help wonder what [Melania] thinks of how all of this is taking place.”
She added, “I certainly didn’t expect it to be demolished like a condemned house over three days or so.”

The Wall Street Journal states that Melania did share her worries over the demolition. She, however, didn’t do it publicly but behind closed doors. Allegedly, she told some of her associates that she has nothing to do with the project because it isn’t hers.
Kate Andersen Brower, author of First Women, a book that delves into the lives, power, and the role of the modern first ladies, shared with the CNN, “Watching the demolition is the physical embodiment of watching the first lady’s role become smaller and smaller.”
She added: “She’s making it clear that – like her husband – she’s not going to be like any other first lady. … She doesn’t care about historic precedent, either.”
What are your thoughts on Trump’s move to demolish this part of the White House for the sake of a ballroom?
