Julie Andrews makes rare public appearance at 87, and everyone’s saying the same thing

Actress Julie Andrews has always been a synonym for elegance and grace.

Her career has spanned decades, and for Andrews, it all started when she discovered her four-octave-singing voice which led to her landing her first Broadway performance on The Boy Friend in 1954. However, it was the role of Eliza Doolittle in the famous musical My Fair Lady that led to the world learning of Andrews and her talent.

Andrews’ career skyrocketed with her iconic role of Mary Poppins for which she won an Academy Award.

Speaking of the role and the film, Andrews said, “It was a brand new thing in my life that I’d never done before. It was for Walt Disney, of course, and the songs in Mary Poppins had a kind of Vaudeville quality to them.

“I think it’s what attracted me to the role, because all that kind of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and Jolly Holiday music was very much like the kind of things that you hear in English vaudeville,” the actress added.

The film helped Disney break records, becoming the highest-grossing film of 1964 and earning 13 nominations at the Academy Awards.

The inspiration behind the costumes, which were formal on the outside but colorful on the inside, was Andrews’ then-husband Tony Walton.

“Because I think that’s what gives her pleasure. Very formal on the outside and a little bit wicked on the inside,” he told her at the time, the actress revealed.

“It completely gave me a clue as to her character. Big, big help for me,” she added, giving him credit.

Most recently, Andrews narrated Netflix’s Bridgerton series as Lady Whistledown, but said she doesn’t have any plans of appearing on camera, completely shutting down that possibility.

“No, no, no,” she said. “You know who Lady Whistledown really is, so I’m afraid it stays with me in the background. But I’m very happy to do that.”

Andrews could be seen holding two boxes of Lu Petit Écolier dark chocolate cookies, while her daughter Emma Hamilton, who accompanied her and helped get inside the SUV, carried a a bouquet of flowers.

It is known that she and her daughter are very close and have a very strong bond. What’s most, they have worked together over the years and wrote 30 books together.

Her fans were quick to comment about the delight of seeing Andrews. One person wrote, “Lovely as ever,” while another added: “So beautiful.”

Realizing that despite her advanced age Andrews hasn’t lost her charm and her signature smile made many happy.
