Meeting Jessica has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. Honestly, she’s the best girlfriend a man could ask for. Fun, energetic, and so lovable.
The only thing that somehow didn’t feel right from the beginning was her relationship with my best friend Elone. She would often mention that he’s way too sarcastic for her taste, while he things she’s a bit too judge-y. So, you can imagine what our going outs have been. Me doing all of the talking, while the two of them rolling their eyes on each other every now and then.
Knowing that they haven’t clicked from the beginning, I was completely shocked to spot them having coffee together at a local cafe while I was doing some errand during a Saturday. At first, I couldn’t believe the two could even talk to each other without getting into an argument, so it was rather strange seeing them talking over lattes.
When Jessica got home, I was expecting her to say, “Hey, guess who I stumbled upon today.” But that didn’t happen. She never mentioned having coffee with my best friend whom she never really liked.
I was so confused. Honestly, I didn’t know what to think.
Over the next few days, she would receive texts and laugh before answering back and placing the phone face down. Things were getting stranger and stranger and I couldn’t gather the courage to ask her or Ealon was was going on between them.
And then, the three of us found each other attending a mutual friend’s wedding. Even then, Jessica and Ealon seemed very close. At one moment, I spotted them chatting at a corner of the venue and I simply couldn’t keep silent any longer.
“What the hell is going on between you two?” I asked loudly, struggling to control my anger.

But just as Jessica was about to say something, the lights dimmed, and a bright spotlight swung right over us, blinding me.
Jessica took the mike and said, “Could you please join me up here?”
I was so confused. Nothing really made sense at that moment.
“Come on, please,” she said, pointing toward the front. “I know this might be something you didn’t expect, but there is something important I want to tell you,” she said.
Every terrible scenario flashed through my head. Was she breaking things off? Was she planning to move away?
“Just tell me what’s going on,” I said while all eyes were on me.
“You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I can’t imagine my life without you,” she said as she knelt on one knee in front of the guests and opened a box with a ring.
“Will you marry me?” she asked.

My jaw hit the floor. Jessica was kneeling in front of me, ring in hand, turning my entire world upside down. I always thought I’d be the one asking. Instead, she beat me to it. The crowd stared, waiting. Elone flashed a huge grin and mouthed, “Bro, say something!” snapping me out of my shock.
I finally managed to catch my breath and say, “Yes! Yes, I will.”
The room burst into cheers as Jessica hugged me tight.
“Surprise?” she whispered. “Best one ever,” I said.
Later, when it was just us, she laughed. “I guess I owe you an explanation.”
“You think?” I joked. “I thought you two were hiding something huge.”

Elone laughed. “We were ring shopping, man.” Jessica nodded. “All those ‘secret’ coffee dates were just that.”
I pulled both of them in a hug and was thankful to have them both in my life.
