I Never Expected This Trick to Go Viral

I was scrolling through TikTok when I spotted a plane seat reclining hack that caught me completely off guard. A woman showed how placing a Pringles can between the tray table and the seat in front can stop that person from reclining. Some people think it’s genius. Others say she should be banned from flying altogether. Talk about a polarizing approach to in-flight comfort!

A Divisive Hack

User @clareduggan1982 showed off her method, saying it’s perfect if the person in front keeps inching their seat back. You just lower your tray table, wedge a tall item—like a Pringles tube—underneath, and voilà, no more recline. But critics believe it’s obnoxious to block someone’s seat function, insisting you should expect the seat to come back. A few folks do like the idea, though, arguing that seats shouldn’t recline at mealtime or when space is already super tight. I guess that’s why this plane seat reclining hack is sparking such a heated debate.

Should Airlines Step In?

Some travelers wish airlines would remove the recline option altogether or enforce set times to tilt back. Others say this is overkill, maintaining everyone has the right to enjoy a bit more comfort on a long flight. Meanwhile, a handful of supportive TikTokers offered their own solutions—like using a water bottle or even refusing to recline out of courtesy for the person behind them. At the end of the day, this plane seat reclining hack has people arguing about who’s responsible for basic airline etiquette: the passengers themselves, or the airlines that design cramped seating.
