It was one of those quiet night during which my husband and I spent the evening watching movies on his lap top. At one moment, he went to the bathroom and just there and then an email message popped up on the screen.
His company was throwing their annual New Year party, and for the first time ever, they allowed a plus one.
“Dear Mr. Marcus. We are happy to announce that the party is coming up! Dress code: White Party. You may bring your plus-one. Address…”
I got super hyped to finally meet his work buddies.
“Hey, hun, you got a message from work about the party, they are inviting a plus one” I said enthusiastically. However, my hubby was nowhere as thrilled as I was.
“I don’t think you should come. I’ll be working late anyways, it’s not a big deal.”
His behavior seemed a bit off, but I brushed it off believing he really didn’t care about the party.
Anyways, I thought it would be a nice surprise if I got ready and still went there not knowing I’d walk into a nightmare.
Once at the place where the party was supposed to be held — a grand hotel — the front desk manager welcomed with a smile.
“I’m Mr. Marcus’s plus one,” I said. But then the manager looked at me awkwardly and that’s when I knew something wasn’t right.
“Miss, Mr. Marcus’ plus one has already arrived alongside Mr. Marcus,” he said.
“Oh, that can’t be,” I said and asked him to double check. However, even before he said anything, I spotted my husband with another woman. They were really close, I could tell that for sure, but the crowed blocked my view. At one moment, they stared walking and I could see they were holding hands.
“No need to double check,” I said and left the place.
In the morning, I poured myself some coffee waiting for my husband to get to the kitchen. I slept in a separate room because I didn’t want to confront him right away, I just needed time till the morning to figure out what to say.
But then, the phone rang. “Mrs. Marcus, we are calling from the hospital. Your husband was involved in a car accident. He’s fine now, but we need you to come.”
“A car accident?” I thought this could be the karma catching up to him, but my real revenge was even better.
Once at the hospital, I was informed that my husband was awake and stable but he needed an emergency surgery on his arm. The thing was that his insurance policy lapsed the month before and they needed my consent and financial authorisation in order to proceed.
I said I needed to talk to my husband first.
He looked pale and scared. I didn’t even enter the room, just stood at the door and told him I knew everything. I said I went to the party and saw him with the other woman.
He tried to defend himself, saying he made a mistake and that he was sorry, but I wasn’t buying it—not after I saw it with my own eyes.
“By the way, maybe SHE can help you cover the hospital bill,” I said and left.
A couple of days later, I got another call from my husband. He begged me to go to the hospital and sign the forms.
It turned out the other woman didn’t want to have anything with him any more.
I wasn’t glad he found himself in such situation, but I didn’t feel sorry for him either. What I knew was that I didn’t want to be with that man any longer. He wasn’t worth my time or my money.
