Austin Metcalf, 17, was tragically stabbed to death at a champions meet on April 2. Reportedly, he died in his twin’s brother’a arms.
Austin, who was a junior athlete at Frisco ISD’s Memorial High School in Texas, got into an argument with another student, allegedly over a seat, at the David Kuykendall Stadium, before the student stabbed Austin in the chest.
According to Austin’s father, his other son, Hunter, Austin’s twin brother, witnessed the incident and tried to help his brother, but nothing could be done.
Austin was pronounced dead at the hospital.
“They were twins, identical twins. And his brother was holding on to him, trying to make it stop bleeding, and he died in his brother’s arms,” the devastated father, Jeff Metcalf, told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.
“I could see all the blood, and I saw where the wound was, and I was very concerned, so I had to find his brother, and we rushed to the hospital. And we prayed, and it’s God’s plan, I don’t understand it, but they weren’t able to save him.
“This is murder.”
Austin’s mother, Meghan Metcalf, recalled the tragic moment she received a call about her son being stabbed to death.
“[Hunter] was there when he was stabbed and he was holding the wound – he was trying to save his brother,” she told news outlet WFAA.
“I think he said he saw when he took his last breath before the CPR came back in. From what I heard, [Austin] was unresponsive for five minutes, they were able to revive him a little, but. It was too little, too late.”
Heartbroken Hunter added: “He didn’t deserve it. I know people that lose their family members all the time, but I just didn’t know it would be mine so soon. My best friend, my brother, my whole life.”
According to the family, Austin had never met the kid who stabbed him before.
The suspect was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
We are so very sorry for this devastating loss.
