One-year-old Olivia Ancelet was left inside the car by her father, who believed he had dropped his baby daughter off to daycare.
The temperatures reached 86°F, and Etienne Ancelet, Olivia’s father, only learned of the fatal mistake when he went to the daycare center to pick her up at around 5:35 p.m. local time.
He was told he hadn’t even dropped her that day.
He realized his baby was inside the hot vehicle, but sadly, the damage was done.
Baby Olivia was gone.
Emergency services were called at the daycare Jelly Beings Early Learning Centre in Earlwood, a suburb of Sydney, but there was nothing to be done. Olivia was unresponsive and was pronounced dead.

Ancelet and the girl’s mother, Kim Visconti, shared a joint statement in which they called Olivia “the light of our lives,” and “sweet and beautiful baby,” as per news.com.au.
“We are humbled and grateful for the time we had her. We are devastated by what has unfolded,” they said. The grieving parents added that they don’t wish any parent to experience such a loss.
“We will always cherish our time with our beautiful girl. She was loved by all that knew her,” they said. “It is an unimaginable time of sorrow for us.”

Roy Gomes, who rushed to Olivia’s help, heard the devastated father holding his daughter and screaming: “I’ve killed my daughter.”
“My neighbour came across and he said, ‘Can you hear that screaming?’, so I turned the lawnmower off,” Gomes explained. “When I got there, I saw the [Ancelet] with the baby in [his] arms and he was just panicking.
“We didn’t know what to do, I said, ‘Let’s try and give her CPR, do our best’.”
Speaking with NewsWire, Gomes added: “All the neighbours were really good, putting water on her (and) trying to cool her down, because she was obviously still very hot.
“She was just floppy. I didn’t sleep much last night, just because I could see the little baby’s face all night, but it’s just something you do.”
Superintendent Christine McDonald of New South Wales Police said during a press conference: “Leaving a child in a vehicle at any time can be dangerous. Leaving a child inside a vehicle for an extended period of time can be deadly.
“This is an absolute tragedy.”
We are so very sorry fort his devastating loss. Baby Olivia turned one in December of 2024.
