Former Harry Potter star Emma Watson has been banned from driving for six months due to speeding. The 35-year-old actress was driving at 38 miles per hour in a 30-mph zone in Oxford, England, on the evening of July 31 last year. One would say that her Hermione Granger spell to reverse the fine would come in handy is she could use it in real life.
She did not attend her hearing on Wednesday at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court, during which the court fined her £1,044, or about $1,400.
BBC News reported that Watson had already had nine points on her license before the speeding incident that led to her temporarily losing her driver’s license.

During the past couple of years, Watson has stayed out of the spotlight as she’s taking her time to work on her master thesis on creative writing at Oxford University. Her last movie role was that of Meg March in the 2019’s Little Women. She, however, stated that acting would absolutely remain part of her future.
Her lawyer told the court that Watson is a student; regardless, “she is in a position to pay the fine.”
Watson, however, isn’t the only Harry Potter star who got herself in trouble for speeding while driving.
Fellow actress Zoë Wanamaker, whose character of Madam Hooch in the franchise’s first film taught Watson’s character how to fly a broom, was also banned from driving for six months.

According to reports, Wanamaker was driving 46 mph in a 40 mph zone in August 2024 in Berkshire, England. She, just like Watson, didn’t attend the court hearing.
This news came shortly after the Harry Potter movies filled headlines with announcements of a reboot produced by the books’ author J.K Rowling. The wizarding series set at Hogwarts is expected to air in 2027.
