Grandfather forbids anyone from touching his old mattress – girl finds stash there after his death

Brooke lost her parents years ago. They were killed in a car crash by a drunk driver, but sadly, the family never got the closure they needed badly.

Brooke was raised by her grandfather, Charles, who loved her unconditionally and was her greatest support.

Unfortunately, he passed away of old age, and Brooke’s heart was broken once again.

When she went to her beloved grandpa’s home, everything reminded her of him. His tobacco was still on the nightstand, his glasses placed near the newspaper he was reading every single day, and his clothes ironed and placed neatly inside the tiny wardrobe he had for years. His aftershave could still be felt into the air.

“I can’t believe he’s gone,” Brooke whispered to herself, feeling lonely and wondering what life would be like without her grandpa.

She started sorting his belongings – the most valuable of which was the photo of her parents – Brooke remembered her grandpa always telling her to stay away from his bed and not to touch his mattress, even when she offered to change the bed sheets and clean his room.

She couldn’t stop wondering what the old man was hiding. He would often say jokingly, “Don’t you ever touch that mattress, young lady. It’s got more secrets than you can imagine.”

Brooke got near the bed and lifted one corner of the mattress. Underneath, she saw a small leather-bound journal, yellowed newspaper clippings, and a stack of photos.

As she went through the items hidden under the mattress, a dark truth unfolded.

Old Charles had documented details of her parents’ accident investigation. It felt as though he spent his life building a case against the person behind the wheel who killed her parents that tragic night.

The evidence Charles gathered showed the authorities had covered up a crime. His notes revealed the police protected a wealthy local man, Mr. Johnson, who drove drunk and caused the accident that killed her parents.

After giving it a lot of thought, Brook decided to take all the evidence to the local newspaper. She pleaded the owner to publish the story. He was hesitant because he feared for her safety and of the possible consequences, but the evidence was too solid to be neglected just like that.

The story sent ripples through the town. The entire community was shocked. They started protests in front of the police station and Mr. Johnson’s company’s headquarters.

The town’s police was forced to reopen the case of Brooke’s parents’ deaths.

Brooke started receiving death threats, but she wasn’t scared. She knew she owned this to her parents and her grandpa.

Eventually, with the help of the public’s pressure, a trial that attracted national attention was scheduled.

During her testimony, Brooke described the anguish and loss her family endured, and spoke of her grandfather’s unwavering search for the truth. “He knew something wasn’t right,” she said. “I’m here to finish what he started.”

After many months, the jury found Mr. Johnson guilty. Justice was finally served, and Brooke felt relieved. She could finally look forward to the future.
