It’s been five years since Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, made the decision to step down from their royal duties and leave Britain behind. The couple settled in sunny California where they live with their two children, Archie and Lili, who recently received the titles of prince and princess.
However, as time passes by, people close to the Duke claim he’s missing his old life, thus he’s planning on buying a home in the UK.
The issue is that he’s potential return to his homeland would mean him traveling there all by himself, since Meghan has said publicly that her children going to the UK would impose a security risk since the family is not provided security. This comes as a result of the fact that neither Harry nor Meghan are working royal members.
Last year, Prince Harry disputed the Home Office’s decision to cut his security protection while he was in the UK.
Following his departure from royal life, the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) withdrew his automatic police protection. Additionally, they rejected his offer to pay for his own security because private individuals cannot hire British police.
“It was with great sadness for both of us that my wife and I felt forced to step back from this role and leave the country in 2020,” said Harry’s statement, read by his lawyer Shaheed Fatima KC stated, as reported by BBC.
“The UK is my home. The UK is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the US. That cannot happen if it’s not possible to keep them safe when they are on UK soil.”
As per the Daily Beast, Harry forces his father to use his influence to secure increased security for his family when visiting the UK. However, a source close to the ruling monarch said it would be “wholly inappropriate” for Charles to challenge a government decision.
The question of police protection deepened the rift between the Duke and his father.
Sadly, the refusal of Harry and Meghan to travel to UK means their children not being able to get to know his father’s side of the family, including their grandfather, their uncle, and their cousins.
According to many, Prince Harry tends to portray himself a victim. However, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams believes the Duke has forced himself in “US exile” himself.
“Harry is in exile – he chose it,” he told Fox News. “It’s lonely, and he will undoubtedly miss his friends and family. There is no sign whatsoever of the rift in the Royal Family healing. King Charles and the Prince and Princess of Wales have, to put it mildly, other priorities.
“I think Meghan is undoubtedly the dominant person in their relationship,” he added. “I don’t doubt he wishes they had managed to arrange a half-in, half-out arrangement [with the Royal Family], especially as his military links meant so much to him.”
British broadcaster Helana Chard believes that after publishing his all-tell memoir, Spare, there’s no going back for Harry.
“A self-assured, self-titled, angry Prince Harry thought it was completely OK to publicly verbally annihilate his family,” Chard said. “It is said he was naïve and didn’t realize it would upset his family. . . . He didn’t realize that his actions would cause such a fallout with his family and the public.”
According to Chard, Harry has shown “signs of paranoid upset” and gradually distanced himself from close friends he considered insufficiently woke or those he accused of leaking stories to the press.
“He is socially awkward when it comes to developing new and meaningful relationships,” she concluded. “He was heavily sheltered growing up and developed his best friendships in school. But those people are hundreds of miles away, in different time zones, and focused on their own young families.”
The relationship between Harry and the rest of the royals, especially his brother William, remains strained.
