Wade Wilson, also known as the “Deadpool killer” because he shares his name with the Marvel character played by Ryan Reynolds in the movie franchise, was sentenced to death in a Lee County, Florida courthouse on August 27, 2024, for the killing of 35-year-old Kristine Melton and 43-year-old Diane Ruiz in Cape Coral in 2019.
Circuit Judge Nicholas Thompson told the court “the evidence shows the murders were heinous, atrocious and cruel” while the second murder [of Ms Ruiz] was “cold, calculated and premeditated.”
Shortly before his sentence was announced, Assistant State Attorney Andreas Gardiner told the court that Wilson, who has a swastika tattoo on his face among the rest of his facial and bodily tattoos, committed the crimes “for the sake of killing.”

According to WFLA, prosecutors said the murders were carried out with such brutality that even experienced investigators were deeply shocked.
Evidence stated that the 31-year-old man from Florida strangled Melton in her Cape Coral home and then fled the scene in her car.
Just a few hours later, when his second victim Ruiz approached him to ask for directions, he tricked her into getting into the car and then strangled her, threw her out, and ran her over multiple times “repeatedly and tried to make her look like spaghetti,” Gardiner told the court during closing arguments.
In court, Wilson gave a chilling confession, admitting, “I choked her out until she couldn’t breathe anymore… It came across my mind to murder, just kill, kill, kill.”
It took the jury only two hours to find him guilty of two counts of first-degree murder, as well as burglary, grand theft, and battery. Ten of the twelve jurors voted in favor of the death penalty.

Wilson is currently on death row at Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, Florida, one of 256 inmates in the state awaiting execution, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.
Despite the brutality of his crimes, Wilson has disturbingly gained a fan base. The New York Post reported that women have sent him nearly 4,000 messages, including some with explicit photos, claiming he was “misunderstood” and begging for mercy. Following his sentencing, State Attorney Amira Fox condemned the fascination, saying, “I have never seen someone as evil as Wade Wilson…and I have never been so stunned to see people actually support somebody that evil and monstrous.”
Between 2023 and 2024, while in Lee County Jail, where he had previously survived a drug overdose, Wilson was issued a prison tablet that took automatic photos each time he logged in. According to The Daily Mail, the images, later shared by crime vlogger Melissa Jade, show his shocking decline: bloated face, messy curls, missing teeth, and the same chilling Joker tattoo stretching across his mouth.
In one of the photos, he has a bandage wrapped around his head.
The photos reveal a man completely different from the one who once appeared in court, dressed in suits with neatly styled hair and makeup to conceal the tattoos on his face.
