Rescue operations for 161 people who were reported missing following the devastating Texas floods are ongoing. The number of fatalities raised to 109 and counting.
The floods happened following extensive rainfall that caused the Guadalupe river to overflow.
At the time of the deadly floods, 21-year-old Joyce Catherine Badon was spending time with a group of college friends. But once the waters raised, she got trapped along the river.
Before she was tragically swept away, Badon sent her father, Ty Badon, a final heartbreaking text message.
“On her cellphone, the last message [her family] got was ‘we’re being washed away’ and the phone went dead,” Louis Deppe, a leader of a volunteer search group, revealed.

After Badon’s lifeless body was retrieved, her grieving mother, Kellye Badon, shared a heartbreaking message on Facebook.
“God showed us the way we should go this morning!”
“We found our lovely daughter who blessed us for 21 years! We pray to be able to find her three friends soon. Thanks to EVERYONE for the prayers and support. God is good!”
Badon’s friends who were with her at the time of the devastating floods, Ella Cahill, Aidan Heartfield and Reese Manchaca, are also missing, according to 12 News Now.

Moments before the tragedy struck, Aidan, whose house the friends were staying at, was on the phone with his dad. Aidan said, “Hey I’ve got to go, I’ve got to help Ella and Reese… they just got washed away,” Badon’s dad revealed.
“And then a few seconds later the phone just went dead, and that’s all we know,” Ty added.
Texas officials blame the National Weather Service (NWS) for failing to alert emergency services of the deadly floods, The New York Times, reported.

The problem seemed to arise because of vacant crucial positions at local NWS branches previously cut by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) as part of the budget reductions.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt rejected claims targeting President Trump. She said, “Blaming President Trump for these floods is a depraved lie and it serves no purpose in the time of national mourning.”
