Buckingham Palace shares surprising details about Princess Beatrice giving birth prematurely

Princess Beatrice and husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi welcomed their second child, Buckingham Palace revealed.

The baby, named Athena, was born a few weeks prematurely at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London, but both she and the mom are home and recovering well.

The royal family welcomed the new addition into the world on January 22, weighing 4lb 5oz.

“Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of the royal family have all been informed and are delighted with the news,” the Palace stated.

Princess Beatrice and her husband, who share three-year-old daughter Sienna together, as well as eight-year-old Wolfie from Mr Mapelli Mozzi’s previous relationship, shared a photo of Athena and thanked the team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for “their wonderful care.”

The news of the birth of the royal baby has come as a shock to the public since it was previously revealed that Princess Beatrice was due in early spring.

The Palace announced the princess’ pregnancy in October. Two months later, doctors advised Princess Beatrice not to travel long distances.

This forced Princess Beatrice to change her plans for Christmas about traveling overseas. Instead, she joined the royal family at church in Sandringham on Christmas Day.

The proud father shared a photo of baby Athena wrapped in a pink blanket, calling her calling her “tiny and absolutely perfect.”

“We welcomed baby Athena into our lives last week. She is tiny and absolutely perfect. We are all (including Wolfie and Sienna) already completely besotted with her. Our hearts are overflowing with love for you, baby Athena,” Mr Mapelli Mozzi wrote on Instagram.
