Before he addressed the nation, Donald Trump, who took the oath of office for the second time and was sworn in as the 47th president, arrived for a church service with his wife, Melania Trump, by his side. This started the inauguration process and the end of office for now-former President Joe Biden.
Trump announced that “The golden age of America begins right now,” referring to himself as to a “peacemaker and a unifier.”
Inside the arena of Washington DC, right in front of his supporters, Donald Trump signed a number of orders.
On the way out, he threw pens at the crowd.
However, before entering the chamber, just moments before taking his oath, Trump tried to give his wife a kiss. Melania, who wore a custom designed hat by Eric Javits, appeared to snub him because of the hat. It turned into an awkward moment that portrayed the president air kissing his wife instead.
Body language expert Judi James analyzed the moment and shared with Paddy Power what Melania’s “avoidance” of the kiss could be indicating.
As James saw it, Donald Trump entered the inauguration event “with a slow alpha presence” with a “mouth shrug smile to suggest a sombre, serious approach to the job.”
Reaching for his wife, Trump “tenderly’ took her hand ‘in a romantic, hand-linking gesture that would normally be seen at a wedding ceremony,” James added.
She continued: “He then leant in to plant a kiss on his wife and for a moment it looked as though he was going for a lip-to-lip kiss.
“Melania leant towards her husband to reciprocate but she also turned her face to instigate a cheek kiss rather than the mouth variety.”
Trump and Melania ended up making a small “mwa” with their mouths.
But according to James, the First Lady was happy with the interraction.
“Melania beamed at her husband for the moment of not just acknowledgment, thanks and recognition but the signal of her being a priority and them being more of a team in the White House.”
As per the expert, the couple appeared out of ‘synch’ during the inauguration of Donald Trump.
