When Laura married Jeffrey, she somehow knew he was the person who could make her and her son’s life complete. It didn’t take long before he proposed and she was happy to say yes. They married during a small and very private ceremony, and Laura’s son, 16-year-old Jeffrey, was by his mom’s side, sharing her happiness. The three made the perfect family, but then, after a couple of months, something started to feel off.
Jeffrey’s behavior toward Ryan changed and while not in a way that was obviously wrong, it was enough to unsettle Laura. All of a sudden, Jeffrey became oddly clingy, always finding reasons to be in Ryan’s room, hug him a little too long, or close the door behind them. At first, Laura brushed it aside, but as time passed by, she started being paranoid.
One night, she woke up to strange noises coming from her son’s room. The was music, footsteps, and something that sounded like muffled laughter. Her stomach tightened. She wanted to believe it was innocent, but she had a bad feeling.
The next morning, she casually asked Jeffrey what he’d been doing in Ryan’s room so late. He told her he was helping Ryan with some computer updates, an explanation that didn’t sound convincing at all. When she asked Ryan about it, he avoided eye contact and quickly changed the subject.
Confused and anxious, Laura decided she needed to know the truth. The following day, while both Jeffrey and Ryan were out, she hid a small camera in Ryan’s room. She was well aware she was violating her son’s privacy, but she also knew she needed to be sure nothing serious was going on behind her back.
A few days later, she finally checked the camera footage and started crying, but not for the reason she feared. Her husband and her son weren’t doing anything wrong, on the contrary, Jeffrey was teaching Ryan how to dance, showing him moves, while they both laughed their hearts out.
The truth was reliving, but she also felt guilt because of not trusting her husband.
She didn’t say anything, and after a week or so, she finally learned the reason behind Ryan’s wish to learn how to dance. They were having a dance night at the school and the parents were invited, too. All he ever wanted was to dance with his mother.
That night, as they danced together, Laura realized how easily fear could twist what’s good.
