In his book Battle of Brothers, royal historian Robert Lacey revealed that late Princess Diana asked from her boys to promise her to be best friends forever.
Quoting Simone Simmons, a psychic who is notably known for her close relationship with Princess Diana, Lacey writes: “You must promise me that you will always be each other’s best friends,” Diana told her sons. “And never let anyone come between you.”
“Both boys promised they would keep to that,” Simmons recalled. “They high-fived each other and gave their mother a big cuddle.
“‘Anybody would have melted at the sight,’” she was reported saying. “Then they went out to play soccer.”
Fast forward to the present day, the relationship between the brothers is at its lowest point. Ever since Harry decided to step down from royal duties along with his wife, Meghan Markle, and has given numerous interviews about his family and the events happening behind closed doors, he has burned many bridges. Making amends with members of the Firm, including his father and brother, now seems unlikely.
Among the rest, in his all-tell memoir Spare, Harry detailed a meeting with William during which he had called his wife, Meghan, “abrasive,” “rude,” and “difficult,” something Harry referred to as to “parroting the press narrative.”
Allegedly, things escalated and Harry described how William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor.”
“He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out,” Harry wrote.
Harry also included information about William’s wife, Kate Middleton, more precisely, he shared private text messages between her and Meghan.
It seems that the brothers won’t be seeing each other any time soon having in mind the fact that they haven’t seen each other almost two years, which a friend of William considers “dreadfully said.”
“Things probably have never been worse between the brothers than they are now. William and Charles have pretty much made the joint decision to effectively cut Harry out of their lives, at least for the time being. There is no sign of a reconciliation on the horizon, and everyone involved seems to have pretty much come to terms with that,” royal expert and author Christopher Andersen told Fox.
“That being said, we have to remember that William is carrying a very heavy psychological burden at the moment,” the royal author continued. “He is deeply upset that his wife and his father are battling cancer at the same time. He must keep a brave face not only for his three young children but also for the sake of the monarchy.”
A friend of William believes that the brothers would eventually meet in case of their father’s passing.
“I believe it 100 percent. Why would William and Kate want all the distraction and circus that his presence would bring? I suspect that William will see Harry one more time in his life in the flesh—at their father’s funeral,” the friend said.
“Things are totally frozen between the two of them. It is hard to overstate how utterly William feels betrayed and hurt on a very personal level. The two brothers were so close growing up that they would finish each other’s sentences. Amid all the trauma of their mum dying and their dad being quite distant, it was an amazing thing to witness,” the source continued.
The friend said that he was struck by Harry’s words in his book about how deep his relationship to his brother was when they were younger, which made it even more puzzling when Harry decided to betray his family “for a bumper payday.”
