My husband threw a huge gala that took a dark turn—a waiter pulled me aside and revealed a shocking secret

Have I ever dreamed of marrying that golden-boy CEO type of guy? Not sure, really, maybe I have, maybe I haven’t. What know is that I did end up with such a man. The truth, however, about this CEO status he had was a totally different story.

Adrian built his company that he was the head of using the money I myself inherited from my parents. But not just that. He also used my architectural patents and my business plan to make this company work.

I stepped away from the company’s day-to-day operations following our daughter’s birth. See, she was born prematurely and needed constant care, so I stayed at home mostly, and little by little, Adrian pushed me aside and I stopped attending meetings altogether while he acted as though he was the sole person behind the empire we built.

His mom, Celeste, fully supported him, and would always throw in passive-aggressive comments about me not understanding “real business.”

Anyway, cut to this incredibly lavish, unbelievably expensive gala dinner that he held as a celebration of getting a redevelopment contract worth $80 million. Adrian acts like he always does, trying to butter up the investors and enjoy all of the praise, and then he stands up and gives this amazingly ironic speech about “loyalty and trust.”

Just as the entree is being served, one of the waiters comes over to me on the left, fixes me with his gaze, and pours an unbelievable amount of ice water down my silver gown.

Celeste gasps, Adrian looks at me with complete humiliation, and yells at the waiter to “get her out of here.”

The waiter takes my arm and marches me through the kitchen to the loading dock doors. Once the doors close, I realize that he was actually trembling the whole time. He was terrified.

He hands me a flash drive, puts it into my palm, and says, “I’m Daniel Ruiz. I am no waiter but an accountant in the financial department of your husband.”

Then comes the shocker. He lets me know that Adrian had instructed the financial department to siphon off the whole of the $80 million contract payment into three offshore shell corporations. And even that wasn’t all. Next day, Adrian planned to draft an urgent letter to the board declaring me mentally unfit to take any decisions concerning the company and thus taking control of my last 41% of the shares of the company.

In fact, Adrian himself had forged medical records to be able to pull all this out. Daniel exposed him only because he did not want to get involved into this criminal act of manipulating the accounts. And guess what else? The three offshore shell corporations belonged to Adrian’s mother and his alleged best friend, Vanessa, who was sitting at the table with us.

And I am there standing frozen with my dress drenched with water and totally numb. All I did is stared into Daniel’s eyes and said, “They think that I am powerless. Good. Let them think so.”

I covered myself with hotel bathrobe and then went right in front of them. Celeste made fun of me saying that I am “appropriately domestic,” and Adrian warned me by whispering through his teeth to go upstairs because “I had done enough.” But I just sat down and pretended that I know nothing; I just innocently asked Adrian where the first contract payment was being deposited. And he just laughed at me, saying to everyone at the table that this is the reason he keeps me away from business because “I get confused,” and then he openly declared to everyone in the room that I have been “struggling” since the birth of our daughter and now he will be managing my shares for my own safety.

People really thought I struggled mentally and even started showing sympathy to me while his friend, Vanessa, got up and announced she would be serving as the new executive director of the project.

They were setting a public trap for me. But what they didn’t know was that I was taping every words of that conversation.

It was 10:40 PM when I rushed to the restroom and called Naomi, my attorney. She verified that the contents of the flash drive were 100% real. I asked her to invoke the “founder clause.” This clause was something that my father had set up for me way back in the corporate charter: It gave me the right to lock down executive powers within 48 hours with the help of independent auditors if any kind of fraud had taken place. And apparently, Adrian hadn’t bothered reading through the small prints.

I walked out at 10:55 PM. Adrian and his attorney were sitting with a notary at the head table and were trying to make me sign some documents saying that they were “for my own good.” These were the proxy documents signing me out of my own company. When I refused, Adrian went mad and grabbed my wrist.

And in that exact moment, Naomi walked in with forensic auditors, a process server, and the company’s independent chairman.

The evening turned into an absolute chaos when Naomi told Adrien he was being suspended right then and there. I tossed the flash drive down on the table and let the auditors take over. Vanessa immediately began backpedaling, the attorney quickly betrayed Adrian and put him out to dry, and Daniel showed up with federal agents investigating financial crimes.

Adrian knew he was done and then leaned towards me and said, “Evelyn, please consider our daughter.”

And I looked at him and said I was considering her because I was damned well going to raise her to know that love does not mean diminishing herself for a man.

The board conducted a voice vote on the spot, right there before all the press and investors, and everyone voted unanimously to fire Adrian. I got up and told the room the truth: That this entire project depended on me—the patents, the prototypes, the money—and that Adrian had never been the backbone of the company; he was just the sign on the building.

The investigation lasted around six months. Adrian ended up pleading guilty and got a heavy federal prison sentence.

His lawyer lost his licence, Vanessa, who turned out to be more than just a friend, was forced to give back all the looted money, and Celeste even had to sell her mansion in order to settle all the lawsuits.

I took control of the company, started the construction myself, promoted Daniel big-time, and provided him with personal protection. On the first day when the buildings were opened, my daughter saw them and asked me whether I built those. I could look into her eyes and tell her, “Yes, bug. And this time, it’s just my name on the papers.”
