After Trump vowed mass deportations, ICE carried out raids across the country, triggering protests in L.A and surrounding areas — While most protesters remained peaceful, certain incidents of violence prompted President Trump to deploy the National Guard to contain the unrest.

While Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, and other local officials criticized Trump’s decision, claiming the deployment of the National Guard and the Marines could only made the situation worse, Trump defended his actions.

Taking to Truth Social, he wrote, “If I didn’t ‘SEND IN THE TROOPS‘ to Los Angeles the last three nights, that once beautiful and great City would be burning to the ground right now,” dubbing the protesters “insurrectionists.”

The Daily Signal reported that a poll conducted on June 9 showed that of those who responded — a sample of 1,000 registered voters — 58% expressed support for the administration’s actions, including 34% who said they “strongly favor” them. Meanwhile, 37% opposed the policies, and 15% remained undecided.

Regarding deportation, the public’s opinion is divided. 36% believe the administration has gone too far with deportations, 25% say it’s about right, and 30% think it hasn’t gone far enough.

Support splits along party lines: 86% of Republicans, 26% of Democrats, and 45% of independents approve.

A federal judge ruled Trump’s actions illegal and ordered control of the National Guard returned to Newsom.

However, an appeals court temporarily halted that order.

U.S. District Judge Charles R. Breyer stated that Trump’s actions “were illegal—both exceeding the scope of his statutory authority and violating the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.

“He must therefore return control of the California National Guard to the Governor of the State of California forthwith.”
