Mila believed her life was perfect. She was married to the man she loved, Richard, and was very successful in the field of real estate.
But everything changed one day when she met her husband’s mistress.
That morning, Mila took a sip of her coffee and suggested Richard and her take a trip together, just the two of them.
Richard used to love taking her places, but during the past couple of months, he seemed distant. It was as though he wasn’t the same man.
“Sorry, I’m attending an important conference this weekend. I’ll be traveling. Should be home by Monday,” he said, not even lifting his head from the phone screen.
“That’s okay,” Mila said, maybe some other time.
Richard stood up from the chair to pour himself some more coffee when his phone buzzed and the name “Carol” appeared on the screen. “Who’s Carol,” Mila thought to herself, but pretended she didn’t see the message.
“Who’s texting you?” she asked Richard, trying to keep her composure.
“Someone from work,” he said and grabbed his car keys. “Gotta go,” he uttered and rushed towards the from door.
Mila tried not to think much about it. She was too busy showing houses to clients, and she needed to concentrate on her work.
That afternoon, Mila made her way to a high-end apartment she had put up for rent. The potential client was already waiting for her when she arrived. To her surprise, it was none other than Carol, the woman who texted her husband in the morning.
Although it was just a glance, Mila recognized her from the tiny photo that appeared along her name on Richard’s phone screen.
“What are the chances?” Mila thought to herself as he heart pounded.
“Hi, I’m Carol,” the woman, who looked beautiful and acted as she was completely aware of it, said. “Thanks for fitting me in on such short notice.”
Mila was eager to learn why she was interested in the apartment. “What’s got you in the city this weekend?” she asked, hoping to find out more about this woman’s relationship with Richard.
“I’m meeting my boyfriend,” Carol said, smiling. “We’ve been planning this weekend getaway for a long time.”
Mila felt like she was losing her breath. Was that “boyfriend” her husband?
Determined to get to the bottom of whatever was going on between this woman and her husband, Mila slipped a spare key in her pocket. She knew she needed to come up with a plan.
That evening, she tried to track Carol on social media. It turned out she already had a boyfriend, a man named Ethan.
Although she was hesitant about contacting him, she was desperate to learn the truth.
When Mila wrote to Ethan and asked him about Carol, he told her they were dating for quite some time and added she was visiting her sister that weekend.
That’s when Mila told him about her suspicions of Carol being her husband’s mistress and begged him to help her catch Richard in the act.
The following evening, Mila and Ethan went to the upscale apartment. They let themselves in using the spare key. Ethan anger reflected Mila’s when they faced the deceitful couple.
“Mila, what are you doing here?” Richard asked, his voice breaking.
“I was about to ask you the same question,” Mila said. She then looked at her husband’s mistress and said, “Carol, nice to see you again.”
Before Richard could say another word, Mila left the place, telling him she should be filing for divorce.
Ethan and Carol got into a heated argument, but Mila didn’t have the strength to listen.
In the weeks to come, Mila’s divorce was finalized. She still received messages from Richard, who said he was sorry and begged for forgiveness. But Mila wasn’t willing to give second chances to anyone who had betrayed her like her now ex-husband did.
