8 signs of true intelligence that are impossible to fake

Speaking of intelligence, the first thing that comes to mind are high IQ test scores and high grades. The truth is, however, that intelligent people possess way more than that.

In fact, there are several types of intelligence, including emotional and social intelligence. These go way beyond the book knowledge some people possess.

Intelligent people tend to be understanding, creative, logical, self-aware, or good at solving problems, among the rest.

Below are certain signs of intelligence that are impossible to fake no matter how hard one tries.

Empathy

The level of empathy these people possess makes them excellent communicators and problem-solvers in social contexts. While being able to manage our personal feelings and emotions is a positive trait, being able to understand what other people feel is much harder.

Empathy is a strong sign of emotional inteligence.

Solitude

While some people love being around others all the time, intelligent people enjoy the solitude. This doesn’t mean they don’t hang out with friends or nurture their relationships with their family. It means their social circles are not as big and they do love spending time by themselves.

Staying Up Late

According to a study, people who tend to go to bed late are smarter. The participants who took part in the research – thousands of teenagers – and reached higher scores on their IQ tests tended to stay up late more than those who scored less.

Curiosity

Intelligent people are curious about everything they learn or hear. They tend to do research on number of topics, read a lot, and explore new worlds and cultures. The questions they ask regarding the outside world are often deep and very meaningful.

They doubt themselves

Intelligent people tend to be aware of their weaknesses and limitations. They are aware there is always more to learn and know, so they sometimes doubt themselves. They are rarely perceived as overconfident and sometimes undervalue their own skills.

Adaptability

Another sign of intelligence is a person’s ability to adapt to new environment, whether it is a new neighborhood, new job, or new culture.

Strong sense of humor

Being able to make others laugh isn’t just fun but also a sign of high intelligence. Being humorous requires wit, creativity, and a vibrant mind.

Procrastination

While some people are just lazy, procrastination can also be seen as a sign of intelligence. Intelligent people work better under pressure and simply can’t force themselves to engage with a task without the right stimulation.
